Strandell Collection electronically catalogued, compendium available
5 December 2023
In 1968 the Institute acquired the Strandell Collection of Linnaeana, which includes nearly all published works, in almost every known edition and translation, by the great Swedish naturalist-physician Carolus Linnaeus as well as works by his students and commentary about Linnaeus and his students, as published up to the late 1960s. While the Strandell Collection was catalogued and available for use by researchers at the Institute, the catalogue records were accessible only on site in the form of a printed catalogue. Most of the collection has now been catalogued electronically, and the records are available through the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries' online catalogue. A compendium, providing author(s), date, short title, edition if known, publisher place and name, Strandell number and Hunt Institute call number, is available to download as a PDF on the Strandell Collection Web page. See the upcoming spring 2024 issue of our Bulletin for an article about the cataloguing process by Librarian Charlotte Tancin.
