Ensigns of the Rainbow Goddess

15 November 1993 – 31 March 1994

The exhibition offered a sampling of 62 illustrations and portraits of Iris Linnaeus from the past few centuries, chosen for intrinsic appeal, representing various artistic approaches to the genus, and including figures from some of the most famous illustrated works devoted to this popular flower. Iris, a deity in Greek mythology, was goddess of the rainbow. The generic name of the plant is from the Greek for rainbow because of the diverse colors of the flowers.
