Albert Seba

(1665–1736) [Seb.]

An apothecary and collector, Seba sold an enormous collection to Peter the Great in 1717 and started over. Linnaeus visited in 1735 while Seba was at work on the second part of his new collection’s illustrated catalogue. Seba’s broad collection practices influenced the shape of Linnaeus’ system, and many of Seba’s animals ended up as type specimens for Linnaeus’ descriptions.
