Mattioli translated the texts of Dioscorides into Italian and Latin. Enriched with synonyms in various languages, special commentary, and illustrations, Mattioli’s translation of Dioscorides’ Commentarii (Venice, 1554) aided doctors and scholars throughout Europe and was reprinted constantly until the 18th century.
