Andrey Avinoff
 Botanical Paintings

2 May – 15 October 1965

This exhibition included 90 botanical paintings by Andrey Avinoff (1884–1949), formerly director of Carnegie Museum (1926–1945). Featured in the show were about 40 watercolor paintings of orchid plants in flower lent by the artist's sister Elizabeth Shoumatoff. There were also 31 paintings of western Pennsylvania plants, mostly wildflowers, lent by the Carnegie Museum. Shoumatoff also lent over a dozen large paintings of floral compositions by Avinoff; some in the Dutch style, and others in the manner of such artists as Thornton, van Gogh and Matisse. A short catalogue accompanied the exhibition.
